PHILOSOPHY

The mind and body are inextricably linked and together they constitute the human experience. A harmonious interplay of the two promotes a sense of well being. A healthy mind is needed to maintain a healthy body and vice versa. Unfortunately, throughout our life span it is common for disturbances to occur. Early identification and treatment of a disturbance ensures better overall health and wellness.

It is baffling that a majority of people carefully attend to their “physical” health while neglecting mental health issues. Even more troubling is the widespread disregard for the mental health of our youth. It is estimated that between 7 and 12 million American youth suffer from mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders at any given time.

Child and adolescent Psychiatrists operate at the forefront of this epidemic by acting as advocates and highly trained specialists for their suffering young clients.

Empathy, accessibility, and expertise are emphasized in my steadfast commitment to providing optimal care to all of my patients. Collaboration with additional psychotherapists and health providers as well as ongoing communication with my patients and their support network is pivotal.

Medication should be initiated in many cases, but only after a patient and/ or their family is provided with a detailed explanation and risk vs. reward analysis.

Medication combined with psychotherapy is usually more effective than either modality used alone to treat most psychiatric conditions.
